How to Keep Your Company Resolutions in 2018
Author: Francesca Genello
We’ve all made personal resolutions before – hit the gym, eat healthier, budget better – but what about company resolutions? Company resolutions should focus around the theme of helping you become more creative, productive, and happier at work. If you haven’t crafted your intentions for 2018, grab that pen and paper and start brainstorming.
But then what? Just because you crafted your list, doesn’t mean it will magically get accomplished. That’s where we come in. We researched and talked and gathered the best tips for staying productive this year. Setting the tone with productivity will help you resolve any resolutions – personal or company related.
Sleep Better
Sleep is the first step. If you don’t get a good nights sleep there’s no way you’re going to be productive the next day. The main culprit of poor sleep patterns is bringing your technology to bed with you. Try journaling, reading a book, or even practicing a little yoga before bed. We know.. you’ve heard this before. If you really want to unwind with some Netflix in bed, we suggest downloading an app to reduce the blue light on your screen and help your brain unwind too.
Develop a Daily Ritual
Going beyond just a routine, set up rituals throughout the day to help keep yourself focused on what matters most. Rituals allow you to concentrate on activities that work towards your goals and leave less time for distractions. Set something up for each part of the day – morning, start of work, end of work, and before bed.
Take Breaks
When you’re in that mode of extreme focus, it can be hard to remember to take a minute – or 17. On average, the top 10% of the most productive people take a 17 minute break for every 52 minutes of work. Take whatever time ratio works best for you but take those minutes and completely step away from work. This would be a good time to listen to a podcast, read your favorite blog, or go for a quick walk.
Quit Procrastinating
Ironic coming after taking breaks? We don’t think so. Procrastinating can take up huge chunks of your work time. One minute you’re deep into researching a new social media strategy and before you know it you’re 45 minutes in on Tasty Facebook videos. Try managing your tasks by identifying and completing the first 5 tasks with the most strategic impact. Also try setting a personal deadline – tell yourself that you need to write that piece of content in two hours. Holding yourself accountable to your tasks will not only keep you from distractions but also make your day far less stressful and more productive.
Get Outside
Last but certainly not least, get outside! Moving your body is the best way to get those productive juices flowing. Take a walk during lunch, move your post-work gym session to the outdoors, get yourself to the mountains this weekend – whatever it is, make sure you’re breathing in that fresh air.
